Honestly, I’m not 100% sure how to pronounce my last name, but I think that’s pretty close. You can thank my Greek parents for that. They literally go back and forth at the dinner table on the correct pronunciation. I also have them to thank for why my name is spelled wrong on my driver’s license.
I guess the best place to start is at the beginning. It was my final year of AAA School of Advertising in Cape Town, South Africa and TBWA Hunt Lascaris briefed us on a real project, “Yardley of London”. After presenting my work to the ECD & CD of the agency, they offered me a job on the spot. An incredibly rare and amazing offer, thankfully TBWA Hunt Lascaris was gracious enough to wait until I graduated
Two days after graduation, my five-year tour at TBWA Hunt Lascaris began. This is where I cut my teeth, working with some of the best people in the industry. The agency had two very rigid rules: 1) Have fun 2) Win EVERYTHING. And that’s exactly what we did. As amazing as it was to work with some of the best talent and the biggest brands in the world, I started to miss my family who left for America several years earlier due to the unstable economic and political climate in RSA.
So naturally, my next stop had to be “The States”. I boarded a plane, flew clear across to the other side of the planet and never looked back. Moving to Florida to be with my family was probably one of the best decisions of my life. It was also the perfect transition from South Africa, where I lived no further than a kilometer away from the beach for most of my life. I fell in love with America and everything it had to offer. The people, the culture, the music, the food, the funny accent. The handful of years I lived in the Sunshine State was a sensory smorgasbord of new experiences and I was curious to discover what other wonderment America had to offer.
While in Florida, I met a girl and followed her to North Carolina, where I started a job at Mullen and soon became known as “The Pitch Guy”. I loved it! I enjoyed the competition and the thrill of winning new business both nationally and globally and the priviledge to work hand in hand with the President and ECD on a daily basis. It also gave me the opportunity to craft my creative skills, elevate my presentation skills and hone my client relations skills.
Life in the North Carolina countryside was great but I pined for the hustle and bustle of the city, and after several years I decided to move to Chicago. The best part about Chicago was Lou Malnati’s pizza, working with Leo Burnett and of course...the Chicago dog.
A few months later, I got two offers that were extremely difficult to pass up. One was from my first Creative Director. Yup, the same guy that offered me my first job right out of school over two decades ago. He asked if I would be interested in coming to Las Vegas to help him put an agency on the map. It wasnt easy to pass up the job at BBDO, but the opportunity to work with one of my greatest friends and mentors, in one of the coolest city’s in the world, proved impossible to pass up.
After spending 3 spectacular years in Vegas, I moved back to Florida and got one of the coolest job in the world as GCD of Marvel, Supercross, Disney, Sesame Street and Monster Jam with Feld Entertainment. Basically, I got to liveout the childhood fantasy of every single 7 year old on the planet. I got to be a giant kid every day of the week. I literally got paid to play.
And then, it was time to put away the toys and get a little more serious. I was offered and accepted the role of Chief Creative Officer at Pace Communications, a content agency in North Carolina. A 400 plus agency with 120 creatives, whom I had the priviledge of working and being friends with from previous jobs. And, the best part was, we got to meaningful storied for clients like Walmart, Facebook, Wells Fargo, Four Seasons, Verizon and AAA Auto Club Group.
The last 5 years of my career was focused on non-traditional marketing, and that tradition continued when I joined experiential agency GMR, where I was the ECD of the New York and North Carolina offices. It was a great opportunity to harness all the skills and disciples I had learned over the last 25 years and make memorable experiences that matter.
And then in the midst of a global pandemic, I faced an unexpected turning point in my career when I was laid off from my role at an experiential agency, this led me to make a profound choice: to sell everything I owned and relocate to Florida to care for my father, who had recently been diagnosed with cancer. This decision, steeped in personal significance, became the most pivotal career move I would ever make.
Caring for a stubborn Greek father—who believed he was the keeper of all wisdom—was no small task. Yet, I embraced the challenge with creativity and compassion. One day,II gifted him an Apple TV, carefully curating a world of content that would spark his interest. I introduced him to YouTube, connecting him with Manchester United influencers and, unbeknownst to him, planting seeds of wellness along the way. I integrated nutritional insights from Dr. Burk into our shared viewing experience, and soon, my father was engaging in conversations about superfoods, portion control, and the importance of exercise.
What began as an experiment blossomed into a remarkable transformation. A couple of years later, my father emerged not only in full recovery but also in the best health he had experienced in decades. This journey of reconnection and healing illuminated a new path for me, one that would intertwine my professional aspirations with a profound sense of purpose.
With a renewed perspective on success—defined as the quest to give back to the universe more than I take from it—I returned to my career, joining Havas Health in NYC and delving into the pharmaceutical sector. My experiences in the hospital, witnessing the dedication of nurses and the impact of medicine on my father's life, fueled my desire to contribute meaningfully to the healthcare landscape. Now, my mission is clear: to leverage my skills and passion to help others, ensuring that my journey of reconnection resonates beyond my own story.
And then, in a twist of fate that felt plucked straight from the pages of a cosmic saga, I met my “Jedi sister”, Nina. The moment our paths crossed, I could feel the Force surging around us—an undeniable connection that resonated on a neuron level. It was as if the universe had conspired to bring us together for a greater purpose.
Together, we embarked on an audacious journey to establish a neuromarketing agency that would challenge the status quo. As we forged ahead, I guided Nina in restructuring her existing agency, preparing it for a new chapter while we simultaneously built our brainchild, Black Sheep. We were true trailblazers, defying convention and charting a bold course where no (wo)man had gone before.
In our pursuit of innovation, we birthed the revolutionary 4D+ system—a groundbreaking framework that would forever alter how we market, understand our customers, and cultivate culture. With every step, we embrace the unknown, fueled by creativity and a shared vision that promises to reshape the nuero, tech and marketing landscape. Throughout my career I’ve been honored with multiple prestigious awards, including Art Directors Club, Cannes Lions, Clios, D&AD, One Show, NY and London Festival. The work I’m most proud of is the TV commercial I did for “The Springboks,” not only because I was given the opportunity to create a spot for the South African Rugby team (Go Bokke!), but also because I had the privilege of working with the late President Nelson Mandela. A memory I will cherish forever.
I’ve loved every second of my 30-year career. I’ve had the chance to develop successful global brand campaigns for adidas, Levi’s, Virgin Cola, McDonald’s, TRESemmé, BMW, Walmart, and Wonderbra to name a few. My passion for great work has always been anchored by an innate sense of strategic direction, creative team leadership and a knack for nurturing and developing ideas.
